Safe and Sound: Home

it was a long flight home, heavy luggage and heavy eyelids for us all...
but we arrived safe and sound to the warm Canadian summer fun...
from the ocean to the water park, to the back yard pool...
to outside snacks and super cycles....

life is full of love, wonder, and new dreams....

last days in South Africa...

 from baby lions...
 to packing backpacks...
 to tall grass hugs...
 and open air smiles...
from goodbyes to our friends in Lesotho...
 to feeding giraffes...

to child play...
 to more child play...
we leave here with the very best memories...tired and ready for home....we are on our way now....flying out in only a few hours...
we sadly leave this wonderful adventure...and head home for the continuation of it!

all our love,
Gail, Scott, Lebo, and Tebo....

Full moon and full days...

Life is such a pickle: dilly, sweet, fresh.

First, we count down to Lesotho and now we count down to home…

We have 5 days left to this wonderful adventure!  Only a couple days left here in the traditional lands of our sons…the land that brought our boys into our full view and the land that has nourished them to this day.

We will be both relieved to be returning home, and sad to be leaving this wonderful home.
From the Basuto shoulder dance, to the dance on the trampoline, to road racing on plastic motorcycles, to good mornings with peacocks, the days are full of life and love.  The lodge we are staying at has a large rec area with a toy-like inventory comparable to Disneyland to our boys.  They woke up this morning and in pajamas and half sleep, requested emphatically that they play with the motorcycles.

A walk into the village, down the dusty red trails, past the ponies and into a craft market – the pictures of these mountains will forever be in our hearts.  The moon is full tonight and the boys are near sleep…tomorrow we head to Maseru, hopefully to pick up the citizenship visas for the boys, and a few last minute treats before we head back to South Africa for our final days.

“sefofani ke Canada”, yes, “airplane to Canada”…and we all look up to the skies as if there is an answer there...

cool cats and Qachas Nek

Internet connectivity has been slim, but hopefully some photos can fill in the blanks.

Highlights from the last few days: the boys had a couple chances to eat snow, they love it!  Tebo calls it ice-cream.  They are also on the watch for fresh curbside icicles, of which they have also sampled with some sweet smiles and frozen fingers.

They boys live and breath with their sunglasses on...

We visited a school outside Qachas Nek: MATHABO ACADEMY FOR YOUNG LEADERS.  Scotty gave first aid lessons to the teachers, and we dropped off two large duffle bags of supplies, everything from toothbrushes to clothes, to colouring books, and bubbles...many donated from friends and family (thanks again!!).  They will all be utilized to the fullest!

Now, we are chillin' at a beautiful lodge, nestled in some more mountain folds, where we will stay for at least a couple nights before returning to the hum of Maseru...and onward to Johanesburg.

and around every corner, there are sheep, donkeys, and ever close by, their shepherds...
view after view....the mountains do not end...
a playground for the boys, equipped with bicycles, scooters, a trampoline...a wooden giraffe...and more to be discovered tomorrow!

we heard some traditional Basuto music...in the cold of the evening air...
one of the angles from Malealea Lodge...our home for now...

The lights are out here, the generator is off, and yet somehow, like the mystery of the stars and the full moon shining down on our family here in Lesotho, we have the internet....lovely connection to home!
